A fluorescent light has a tube (10) with a housing (11) formed of polycarbonate or like plastics material which is of a thickness which allows the tube (10) to be bent. The housing is closed at each end with conventional tube contact pins (14, 15) and discharge electrodes (16, 17). The inner face of the tube is coated with liquid phosphor (19) and the interior of the tube (10) contains Argon or other suitable gas at below atmospheric pressure. The tube (10) can be bent or configured to provide a fluorescent light where the shape and configuration of same can be easily changed.
