PREPARATION OF HYDROGEN-ADDED EDIBLE OIL CONTAINING SMALL AMOUNT OF ELAIDIC ACID

PURPOSE:To obtain hardened oil containing small amount of elaidin suitable for raw material oils and fats such as margarine or shortening by subjecting hydrogenation to edible oils and fats using CaNi-based hydrogen-occluding alloy. CONSTITUTION:Liquid edible oils and fats and hydrogen-occluding alloy composed of CaNi5 and/or CaNi4.5-4.9Co0.05-0.5 previously occluding hydrogen are charged in a reaction vessel, deaerated and said oils and fats are kept at a temperature about 40-120 deg.C for 10-360min with stirring, or said alloy is sealed in tray-type column able to cool the hydrogen-occluding alloy by jacket method and the edible oils and fats kept at a temperature about 40-120 deg.C are circulated for 10-360min to perform hydrogenation to afford the aimed hardened oil.
