The valve has a housing (1) enclosing a valve compartment (2) and an inlet (3) and outlet (4) for the medium operating it as well as a cylinder (7) shielded by the valve compartment (2). A piston (8) in the cylinder (7) divides the cylinder into two compartments (9,10). The piston (8) is joined to a closure piece (6) by a piston rod (11) whcih contains a connecting duct (31) extending from the closure piece end of the piston rod (11) to the cylinder compartment which gets smaller during the closure movement. A throttle part between the closure piece (6) and the connecting duct (31) has a throttle cross section altering in alteration to the relative movement between the closure piece (6) and the piston rod (11). USE/ADVANTAGE - The valve's accelerated closure movement caused by flow forces is reduced or avoided.
