The equipment comprises a voltage source (2), a resistor arrangement (12) with a lever (4) linked to a gear selector (5) and a receiver circuit (3). The voltage source (2) delivers an approximately constant voltage. The resistors group (R) consists of a number of different value resistors, each corresp. to a different gear selector (5) positions which are connected as required in series between the voltage source (2) and the receiver circuit (3). Pref., the values of the resistors (12) are chosen to provide a gradually increasing/decreasing voltage or alternately increasing/decreasing voltage at the input of the receiver circuit (3); and these voltages are a multiple of a base voltage plus an offset voltage.
