PURPOSE:To industrially and advantageously produce mono- or/and dialkylnaphthalenes from naphthalene or/and a monoalkylnaphthalene and an alkylating agent by using a specific metal-containing faujasite type zeolite. CONSTITUTION:Naphthalene or/and a monoalkylnaphthalene and an alkylating agent are brought into contact with zeolite as a catalyst to produce mono- or/and dialkylnaphthalenes. In the process, a meal-containing faujasite type zeolite in which an iron family or a titanium family metal (A) is contained in a form that Al constituting the crystal skeleton is partially substituted therewith and a platinum group metal (B) is introduced into ion exchange sites of the zeolite by ion exchange is used as the aforementioned zeolite.
