An apparatus for the reproduction of figures such as text. The apparatus is provided with a plate arranged on a mount, the mount forming a contrasting background with respect to the plate. Arranged in the plate, over virtually the entire surface in a regular pattern, are figure-forming means with the aid of which a user is able, in a simple manner, to form figures by him/herself. To this end, the plate is designed so as to be detachable from the mount, and the desired figures can be produced by the figure-forming means being either filled in or removed. Said figure-forming means preferably consist of perforations which can be sealed with the aid of sealing means or of partly cut-away plate sections which can simply be detached.
