COPOLYMERS AND THEIR USE IN THE TREATMENT OF LEATHER

The invention concerns copolymers made up of (a) 20-60 % by wt. of ethylenically unsaturated monomers with acid groups, (b) 40-80 % by wt. of ethylenically unsaturated glycerin derivatives in which one of the glycerin hydroxyl groups is not substituted, one hydroxyl group is etherified with methylallyl alcohol and the third hydroxyl group is either etherified with a C12-C24 alcohol or a C12-C24 alkylphenol or esterified with a C12-C40 monocarboxylic acid and (c) 0-30 % by wt. of other ethylenically unsaturated monomers which are copolymerizable with monomers a and b, the sum of the monomers a + b + c being equal to 100. The invention also concerns the use of such copolymers in the softening of leather. The copolymers described give better exhaustion of the bath in the treatment of leather.
