The invention relates to a new hematopoietic cell growth factor, the human megakaryocytopoietin, its isolation from urine and serum of patients with aplastic anemia using the known biochemistry techniques, and its cDNA cloning method. This factor capable of promoting the colony-forming of megacaryocytes, enlarging the size of megakaryocytes, stimulating the proliferation of multipotential stem cell. This factor can be used for treating thrombocytopenia and hematocytopenia.
