Cells for prodn. of recombinant adeno and adeno-associated virus

Cell for prodn. of defective adenovirus (AV) has inserted into its genome a part of the E4 region of the AV genome contg. the open reading frame ORF6 under control of a functional promoter. Also new are: (1) plasmids contg. the specified E4 region under control of an inducible promoter; (2) stocks of pure, recombinant defective AV lacking at least the E4 region, produced in the new cells; and (3) the recombinant defective AV DELTA E1,ORF3-, ORF6- (AV1), DELTA E1, DELTA E4,ORF1+ (AV2), DELTA E1, DELTA E4,ORF4+(AV3) and DELTA 1, DELTA E4 (AV4).
