The monitoring method uses a monitoring programme for detection of continuous loops and/or blocked processing stages within the processing system, by comparing the running time of each processing stage with a given limit running time, to provide a fault indication when the latter is exceeded. The actual task conditions of the tasks within the processing stage are stored for comparison with the task conditions the next time the same processing stage is checked, with a continuous loop indicated when no variation in the task conditions is detected.
