A cylinder block (21) head (20) metal gasket consists of supporting plates (2,3) with thickened zones (6,7). The support plates (2,3) edges (11,12) are held by a folded rim (5) to a cover plate (1), forming an intermediate gap (10) of pre-determined size. The gaps (10) give the flange edges (12) long-term elasticity when the gasket is compressed between the head and block.
