An identity verification device is provided for a transmitter (S1) with a receiver (E1) connected to it (S1) and receiving a first carrier-signal modulated useful signal from the transmitter (S1). The transmitter (S1) is equipped with devices (2-9) for the generation and transmission of at least one first number of second carrier-signal oscillations comprising identification pulses (I1-I6) and the receiver (E1) includes devices (10-18) for reception and evaluation of the identification pulse (I1). To evaluate the identification pulse (I1), the number of oscillations it contains is ascertained and compared with a reference value, and with agreement of the two, the identity of the transmitter (E1) is confirmed.
