PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dispense with the cleaning work of a place where sludge is accumulated, to naturally exclude a chip adhered to a hinge conveyor on the return side thereof and to dispense with the restriction of an arranging condition because of low constitution in a filter apparatus for removing a large chip in its initial stage and filtering off a small chip by the filter drum of a natural flow-down type filter apparatus. SOLUTION: The filter apparatus is equipped with a hinge conveyor for feeding a chip G with a large particle size while removing a liquid and a chip (g) with a small particle size on the way of the feed of a liquid to be filtered introduced from a first tank 2 along a first slope 5 to discharge the same, a chain 10 for introducing the liquid (s) and the chip (g) with a small particle size into a second tank 3 through the opening part 11 provided to the lower portion of the first slope 5 to discharge the same while feeding the same along a second slope 20 and an ejection pipe 16 for ejecting a liquid to a filter drum 12 provided with a filter for filtering a liquid to be filtered flowing in the drum and rotationally driven and the filter to wash them.
