PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To constantly retain the temperature of an inert gas being sealed into a fuel rod and to prevent the gas pressure in the fuel rod fluctuating by mounting a cooling device to a welding chamber where the inert gas has been sealed. SOLUTION: In the nuclear fuel rod-welding device for welding an edge plug 5 to a covering pipe 1 of the fuel rod of a nuclear fuel assembly, for example a cooling plate 13 made of a pyogenic conduction element such as copper is fitted to the outer surface of a welding chamber 6, and a heat conduction element 14 is brought to contact and fixed to the cooling plate 13. Then, temperature in the welding chamber 6 is detected by a temperature sensor 15, and a cooling temperature is controlled by the heat conduction element 14 by a control device 16 where a temperature signal is inputted from a temperature sensor 15, thus making a constant the temperature that is increased by welding heat in the welding chamber 6 and controlling the pressure of the inert gas being sealed into the fuel rod to a specific value. A cooling pipe and a cooling fin may also be used for cooling.
