PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary variable resistor which can eliminate a flat spring as a buffer member, reduce the number of components and the cost, has satisfactory assembly performance and mass-productivity and has superior heat radiation properties. SOLUTION: This rotary variable resistor has a bearing 10 supporting a function shaft 11 rotatably, ceramic board 2 on which a resistance element 3 is formed, and a metal attachment plate 1 with which the ceramic board 2 is attached to the bearing 10. The bearing 10 is formed by die casting, and its base 10a has a placing part 10h having a flat plane and protrusions 10k protruding from the placing part 10h. The ceramic board 2 is held between the placing part 10h of he bearing 10 and the attachment plate 1, and the protrusions 10k are flattened and brought into contact with the ceramic board 2.
