PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an FIFO memory by which stored valid data are prevented from being overwritten and lost by a writing side because the operating situation of a reading side is not known. SOLUTION: The FIFO memory has a writing pointer 10, a memory block 20, a reading pointer 30 and an operation state detecting part 40. According to a writing enable signal WEN and a reading enable signal REN, data WD are written at the data storage position of the memory block indicated by a writing pointer based on a writing clock WCL, and the written data are read from a data storage position indicated by a reading pointer based on a reading clock RCL. When the reading clock is stopped, the operation state detecting part detects it and transmits it to the writing side by a reading-side status signal STA to prevent overwriting of new data to a data storing position from which valid data are not read yet.
