PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controlled pressure release and self-resealing vessel assembly for chemical action assisted by high-pressure microwaves. SOLUTION: The vessel assembly 10 has a cylindrical reaction vessel 11 made from a material which is substantially transparent to a microwave radiation. The vessel is provided with annular walls, one closed end which retains reactants in the lower position of the vessel, and one open end which defines a mouth for the vessel. The mouth of the cylindrical vessel has a lip part which is bevelled inwardly from the open end. A solid floating plug which is transparent to the microwaves closes the mouth of the reaction vessel, while the plug has a frustum portion which engages with the sealing attached to the bevelled surface when the plug is placed in the mouth of the vessel. The plug is sealed in the open end part of the cylinder in the state that the frustum portion engages with the lip part by applying a defined axial force against the plug with a flexible clamp.
