PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection display apparatus preventing projection of a ghost image. SOLUTION: The projection apparatus is equipped with: reflective light valves 17R, 17G, 17B; and polarization beam splitters 16R, 16G, 16B which polarize and separate the light from a light source 10 to exit to the reflective light valves 17R, 17G, 17B and further analyze the modulated light by the reflective light valves 17R, 17G, 17B. The projection display apparatus is also equipped with light shielding sections 19Ra, 19Ga, 19Ba near the peripheries of the exiting faces of the analyzed light in the polarization beam splitters 16R, 16G, 16B.
