<p>1346872 Coatings EI DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 27 June 1972 [28 June 1971 10 Dec 1971] 29971/72 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Steel panels primed with an alkyd resin primer pigmented with iron oxide and having a coating of black dip alkyd resin primer over the iron oxide primer may be coated with a thermosetting coating composition comprising 10 to 60% by weight binder solids content solution in an organic solvent, the binder consisting of (1) 75 to 98% by weight of an alkyd resin derived from 30 to 70% by weight of a drying oil selecetd from tung oil, tall oil, linseed oil, dehydrated castor oil, soya oil, chinawood oil and mixtures thereof, 30 to 55% by weight of an ester of an organic dicarboxylic acid and a polyol, 0 to 10% by weight of an ester of an aromatic monocarboxylic acid and a polyol and 0 to 8% by weight of a polyol, the percentage of the components being based on the weight of the alkyd resin, the dicarboxylic acid being selected from maleic acid, maleic anhydride, phthalic acid, phthalic anhydride, isophthalic acid, terephthalic acid, succinic acid, glutaric acid, adipic acid, bimelic acid, suberic acid, azelaic acid, sebacic acid and mixtures thereof and the polyol being selected from glycerol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, butane diol, diethylene glycol, trimethylolpropane, trimethylol ethane, pentaerythritol, sorbitol, mannitol and mixtures thereof; and correspondingly a biuret polyisocyanate of a C 1-12 aliphatic diisocyanate. The composition preferably contains a pigment and to increase the rate of cure, a metallic drier may be added. The polyisocyanate may be at least partially reacted with or blended with a C 4-20 monohydric alcohol suitable alkyd resins are derived from linseed oil, chinawood oil, glycerol phthalate, glycerol isophthalate and glycerine or soya oil, pentaerythritol phthalate, pentaerythritol butyl benzoate and pentaerythritol. The polyisocyanate is preferably derived froni hexamethylene diisocyanate.</p> |
