1360151 Radiation detectors UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION 9 Oct 1972 [9 Nov 1971] 46473/72 Heading G1A In a radiation detector comprising a discharge device, e.g. a gas diode 39, connected to one electrode 35 of an ionisation chamber 21 the other electrode 27 receives pulses from a generator 31 so as to raise the charging voltage of the diode above its critical voltage, Fig. 4 (not shown) . In this way the gas diode will discharge even if the volume of the ionisation chamber is not large enough to produce sufficient diode bias current for unassisted discharge at low radiation exposure rates. The detector output on line 43 is a train of pulses whose repetition rate is proportional to the intensity of incident, e.g. y-, radiation. |
