CONSTITUTION:The control electrode 202 to control the ion which is generated by discharge and positive potential is applied to this control electrode 202. The ion generated by discharge which advances toward the fluorescent layer 211 is decelerated and is bent toward the second insulating substrate 210. Consequently, the fluorescent layer 211 can be prevented from being deteriorated due to ion impact. Since electrons exist in the accelerated electric field, the electron excitation type fluorescent substance effectively emits light and produces high brightness display.
