The invention concerns a hydraulic wood splitter with a working cylinder 1 whose piston rod 2 has a pressure plate 3 which presses the wood against a fixed splitter edge 4. The cylinder is mounted so that, through a shift in the centre of gravity, it can tip when the piston rod moves out and in. The pressure-plate guide 5 mounted in the piston rod runs in the guide groove 6 in such a way that this tipping can take place only when the piston rod is situated in one of the two turning points. In this way, the pressure plate will be above the work plane 7 when the piston rod travels out, and beneath the work plane when it returns. By the use of this construction, the wood to be split can be laid on the work plane for the entire period of the return stroke. This makes the wood splitter particularly suitable for the splitting of long pieces of wood. <IMAGE> |
