Water/air heating boiler with a double casing, open at the front and with water flowing through it, having water-conducting transverse pipes, a further casing arranged at a spacing at least from one side wall and/or the rear wall of the double casing, and enclosing between it and the double casing an interspace conducting an air stream, at least one essentially horizontally arranged air heating duct going out from the interspace and traversing the fire space, and the air heating duct and the water-conducting transverse pipes take up separate partial regions of the fire chamber head, a fire basket (31) being movably arranged beneath the fire chamber head. The heating boiler furthermore has an air-permeable base (18) with an ember box (23) arranged approximately centrally in the base and having the air flowing towards the interspace (17) flowing around it. In the embodiment as a variable fuel boiler, the base (18) can be divided into two into an air heating chamber (18) and a chamber (18') with a double casing (1') and water-conducting heat exchange bodies (33) which are flow-connected to the double casing (1). An oil or gas burner (34) is then built onto the chamber (18'). <IMAGE>
