The apparatus contains at least one thread store having a thread carrier (1) rotating past a stationary feed nozzle (8). The thread is deposited on the thread carrier (1) in the form of thread bundles which consist of partially overlapping turns. The thread carrier (1) is covered, next to the feed nozzle, by a small plate (11), and the thread bundles are deposited in the interspace between the thread carrier (1) and the small plate (11). As a result, the thread bundles are fixed on the thread carrier and the individual turns cannot become entangled or move relative to one another, with the result that the apparatus is also highly suitable for thick yarns. <IMAGE>
