PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for tires which can improve braking properties (wet braking) on a road surface in a wet condition, steering stability and processability while maintaining low rolling resistance, and a pneumatic tire using the same.SOLUTION: A rubber composition for tires is obtained by mixing 100 pts.mass of diene-based rubber containing ≥40 pts.mass of styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber, ≥30 pts.mass of silica and 0.1-30 pts.mass of a polyhydric alcohol having (1) a hydroxy group number of >3 and ≤10, (2) a ratio of the hydroxy group number to the carbon atom number of the former/the latter of ≥0.7 and (3) a straight chain or a branched chain and no cyclic structures. A pneumatic tire uses the rubber composition for tires especially for tread 3. |
