PURPOSE:To provide merchandise having a high additive value, by forming a carbon film on the surfaces of frames and translucent windows for timepieces thereby enhancing the image of the timepieces obtd. in such a manner. CONSTITUTION:The timepiece parts 10 such as frames for timepieces made of metals and plastics and windows for timepieces made of translucent glass or plastics are disposed in a cylindrical column 10' in a plasma generating space 1 where an adequate degree of vacuum is maintained. A gaseous non- reaction product 6 such as H2 is introduced into the space 1 and microwaves are applied thereto from an oscillator 4. A magnetic field is applied thereto from magnets 5, 5' to generate high-density plasma and the surfaces of the parts 10 are cleaned by the above-mentioned gas 6 or electrons having high energy. While the above-mentioned gas 6 is introduced into the space, a gaseous carbon compound 7 such as CH4 is introduced into the space until the concn. of the gas 7 attains an adequate value to change the pressure in the space 1 to about 0.3-30Torr while the plasma state already generated under the low pressure is maintained. The active concn. of the gas 7 per unit space is thereby increased and the film essentially consisting of C is formed at a high growth rate and large spreading of the gas 7.
