<p>PURPOSE:To shorten the processing time for positioning at the time of the reverse direction movement by providing a block number counting part, a number detecting part, a number comparing part and a forward or reverse traveling direction deciding part, confirming which direction of a tape travel is forward or reverse and carrying out the positioning. CONSTITUTION:When a write instruction in the reverse direction is received after reading a nth block 34, an instruction 24 is given to a travel control part 9 and the forward or reverse traveling direction deciding part 10, and a decision of forward or reverse direction on the readout direction of the nth block 34 together with the traveling direction of the new instruction 24 is made by the deciding part 10, and if it is reverse direction, a reverse direction signal 21 is sent to the travel control part 9, and thence a travel signal 18 is sent to a capstan 6 so as to run the tape in the forward direction from that point. The steady speed travel is performed from the point 40 to 48, skipping over the n+1th block 36, and readout data 11 read out by a lead head 1 is sent to the block number detecting part 2, where readout block number 13 as detected is sent to a block number comparing part 4. A detection signal 14 is sent by an IBG detecting part 3 to the travel control part from the readout data 11.</p> |
