An end shield and bearing assembly for an electric starter motor for internal combustion engines comprises a bearing extension and a bearing for supporting a drive shaft and received in the bearing extension. A cover cap is fitted over the bearing extension of the commutator end shield and encloses the end of the drive shaft and an armature longitudinal play compensator mounted on the above shaft end.
