PURPOSE:To make a combustion chamber compact by forming the journal of a cam shaft into the diameter larger than the rotating locus of intake and exhaust cams and forming a bearing wall having the bearing hole of the journal and the support holes of rocker shafts into a cylinder head at the corresponding position between adjacent cylinders. CONSTITUTION:A cam shaft 16 extended in the cylinder alignment direction between the intake and exhaust valves 10 and 11 of a multi-cylinder engine has an intake cam 16i and an exhaust cam 16e and also has journals 16j at the middle section between the intake cams 16i and 16i of adjacent cylinders 1 and 1 and at both end sections of the cam shaft 16. In this case, the journal 16j is formed into the diameter larger than the rotating locus of the intake and exhaust cams 16i and 16e. A peripheral wall 24 and a bearing wall 25 rising between the cylinders 1 and 1 are integrally formed with a cylinder head 4, the journals 16j are supported by the peripheral wall 24 and the bearing hole 26 formed on the bearing wall 25. Support holes 27 and 28 are formed on the peripheral wall 24 and the bearing wall 25, rocker shafts 17 and 18 are inserted into them and fixed. |
