A process for producing a porous material is characterized by mixing a microbial degradable material (A) with a microbial non- degradable material (B), molding the mixt., bio-degrading it with an microorganism or an enzyme, and removing the material (A). The material (A) is pref. starch, cellulose, casein, amino acid or fatty acid, and the material (B) is pref. polyethylene, polystyrene, polypropylene, PVC, polycarbonate, etc. The porous material is used as a separating membrane.
