A power amplifier comprises: a carrier amplifier that operates from a time when an input signal is small; a peak amplifier that starts operating when the input signal has become large; a phase adjustment circuit that adjusts the phases of the output of the carrier amplifier and the output of the peak amplifier; an impedance conversion line that converts a load of the carrier amplifier when the input signal is small and that has a characteristic impedance approximate to an optimum load impedance of the carrier amplifier; and a circuit that is located between the output of the carrier amplifier and the impedance conversion line and that reduces the output capacity of the carrier amplifier. |
