PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display method and a display device that can be further enhanced.SOLUTION: A display method of displaying, on a display device 100, pictures of video data whose brightness is defined by a first EOTF (Electoro-Optical Transfer Function) corresponding to HDR (High Dynamic Range), acquires video data, and performs first conversion for converting brightness of pictures on the brightness corresponding to a dynamic range of a third EOTF in which the dynamic range of the brightness of second EOTF is contracted while the maximum brightness of the second EOTF is matched with displayable brightness of the display device with keeping the relative relationship of the brightness of the second EOTF, and displays the pictures on the display device 100 by using the first conversion result. The second EOTF is a part of the first EOTF and corresponds to a brightness range portion in which the peak brightness represented by peak brightness information contained in the acquired video data is the maximum brightness.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 12
