The present invention provides: an edge-lit backlight device (100A) which has a simple configuration and is suppressed in the occurrence of luminance unevenness; and a liquid crystal display device which is provided with this edge-lit backlight device. An edge-lit backlight device according to the present invention comprises: a light guide plate (30) which emits light incident on an end face (31) toward the front face; a light source (40) which is arranged to face the end face of the light guide plate at a distance; and a first optical sheet (70) which is arranged on the front face side of the light guide plate. The first optical sheet has a structural part (71) that is arranged, when viewed in plan, along the direction in which light is emitted from the light source toward the light guide plate; and the light source-side end of the first optical sheet is positioned farther from the light source than the end face of the light guide plate when viewed in plan. |
