PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high quality glass substrate for a magnetic disk, which can reduce surface defects of a glass substrate caused by cerium oxide abrasive grains used in a polishing step, and also reduce missing errors of a magnetic disk manufactured using the glass substrate.SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a glass substrate for a magnetic disk includes a polishing step of using free abrasive grains including cerium oxide as a polishing agent to polish an end face or principal face of a glass substrate 1, a contact step of bringing the glass substrate after the polishing step into contact with an aqueous solution including alkali metal ion and phosphate ion, and a washing step of washing the glass substrate after the contact step. |
