According to the invention, a second heat storage group is provided having at least one second heat storage unit. Same comprises second electrical heating means, a second heat storage medium, which is a metal, and a second heat exchanger. The line system is configured in such a way that a working fluid can be conducted from the first heat storage group to the second heat storage group and onwards to the heat engine-generator unit. The invention also relates to a corresponding method for operating a storage device for the temporary storage of electrical energy in the form of heat energy.
