PURPOSE:To prevent mis-input and to speed up an input by using an input mode selection key so as to select the order or input of a dead key and a character key. CONSTITUTION:The titled device is provided with an input device 1 having character keys inputting Japanese characters and alphabetic characters, various control keys, a dead key designating a desired dead symbol and an input mode selection key selecting the input mode set with the order of input of the dead key and the character keys, a storage means 3 storing the input mode set by the mode selection key and a reference table 5 storing characters with the dead symbol. Based on the input mode stored in the storage means 3, the input information from the input means 1 is identified to read a character with a desired dead symbol from the reference table 5, thereby forming a sentence with the character having the dead symbol. Thus, the input speed is increased and mis-operation is prevented.
