Catalytic apparatus.- Exothermal gaseous catalytic reactions are carried out in an apparatus wherein the incoming gases, after passing between the outer pressure tube and the heat exchanger are divided into two adjustable currents, one stream traversing the heat exchanger and the other bye-passing it, be fore finally joining again to pass through the catalyst. In the apparatus shown, the gases enter at 14 and pass through the annular space 8 which is preferably heatinsulated. They are then divided by the valve 16. One gas current passes, via the pipe 17, through the heat exchanger 7, and then, by means of the pipe 18, to the top of the central chamber 4, where it rejoins the other portion of the reaction gases which are passed directly to the chamber 4, by the conduit 20. After passing through the catalyst, and then the heat exchanging chamber 6, the gases leave the reaction vessel at 21. |
