334,029. Auto-Klean Strainers, Ltd., and Beldam, W. R. July 27, 1929. Filters or strainers comprising grids or gratings.-Relates to apparatus of the kind described in Specification 215,098, comprising a cylindrical straining wall formed by thin discs or plates spaced apart side by side so as to form peripheral slots with which relatively-movable cleaning blades are in permanent engagement. As describe in the earlier Specification the plates were carried by a central shaft and by longitudinal rods passing through them near their peripheries. According to the present invention the plates are of the form shown in Fig. 4 and comprise an annular ring 17 with parts 21 projecting inwards and having holes 22 to receive longitudinal support rods 20, Figs. 1 and 2. The rods 20 are supported at intervals by circular members 18 which embrace the central shaft 12 and are rotated thereby. The apparatus shown is otherwise as described in Specification 215,098. It comprises two pairs of elements mounted side-by-side on shafts 12 in a casing 1 with inlet 2 and outlet 3, the liquid from the inlet 2 being directed downward in the casing by a partition 4 and the strained liquid passing from the interior of the elements to the outlet 3 through passages 10 in members 8, 9, which close openings in the casing at the ends of the elements. The cleaning blades 24 are mounted on rods 25 external to the straining wall. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 5, the parts 21 of the rings 17 project outwards and the rods 20 are stationary, the rods 25 for the cleaning blades being carried by the parts 18 and rotating with the central shaft.
