The present disclosure relates generally to the production of xylosyl-xylitol oligomers, and more specifically to biological methods for producing xylosyl-xylitol oligomers in host cells.

1. A method of producing a xylosyl-xylitol oligomer, the method comprising:
a) providing a host cell comprising
a recombinant xylodextrin transporter polypeptide, anda recombinant xylose reductase polypeptide comprising xylodextrin reductase activity; and b) culturing the host cell in a medium comprising xylodextrins, wherein the xylodextrin transporter polypeptide transports the xylodextrins into the host cell, and the host cell produces a xylosyl-xylitol oligomer from the xylodextrins.
