The invention relates to an intensely-cooled cathode for spatial magnetoplasmadynamic motors, of increased operation length. According to the invention, the cathode consists of a body (1) cooled with liquid tin forced to circulate through some holes (c, d and e), liquid tin which is then cooled by convection-radiation within some pipes (5) brazed in the cathode (1) and on a fan-like element (6) having the sides arranged at 90°, made of thin steel sheet of Ni or Co superalloy, painted with matt black heat-resistant paint, the forced circulation of the liquid tin taking place under the action of a pressure produced by an electromagnetic pump which consists of a tubular core (7), a coil (8), a piston (9), a spring (10) and a ceramic bush (11), the pump sucking in the liquid metal at minimal temperature from a central tank (a) through some holes (b), and pushing it into the cathode (1) through a ball-spring valve (12, 13), cooling it thereby. |
