Provided is a thermoelectric conversion element which can efficiently convert an externally provided temperature difference between a high-temperature heat source and a low-temperature heat source into a temperature difference in a thermoelectric conversion layer, and which can increase the amount of generated electricity. The thermoelectric conversion element comprises: an electricity generation element which includes a thermoelectric conversion layer and an electrode pair disposed with the thermoelectric conversion layer sandwiched therebetween in a planar direction; and two high thermal conductive portions which are disposed on a maximum surface of the electricity generation element and spaced apart from each other in an arranged direction of the electrode pair, and which have a thermal conductivity of not less than 50 W/m·K, wherein Lbet × Scool/Sbet ≥ 0.01 is satisfied, where Lbet(μm) is the spaced-apart distance of the two high thermal conductive portions in a planar direction, Scool (μm2) is a contact area of one of the high thermal conductive portions and the external low-temperature heat source, and Sbet (μm2) is a cross sectional area of the electricity generation element perpendicular to the spaced-apart direction of the two high thermal conductive portions. |
