The invention relates to a method for producing a reinforcement element for a pneumatic tyre from at least one metal wire element (10) at least partially covered with a lubricant residue, the method including: a step of removing (30) at least some of the lubricant residue from said metal wire element (10), followed by a step of heating (50) said metal wire element (10) to a heating temperature higher than a temperature of at least partial vaporisation of the lubricant residue, and then a sheathing step (60) during which said metal wire element (10) is sheathed by a layer including a thermoplastic polymer composition.
