Disclosed are a joint inter-intra prediction mode-based image processing method and an apparatus therefor. Particularly, a method for processing an image by joining inter prediction and intra prediction may comprise the steps of: deriving a prediction mode of a current block; generating an inter prediction block of the current block and an intra prediction block of the current block when the prediction mode of the current block is a joint inter-intra prediction mode; and generating a joint inter-intra prediction block by coupling the inter prediction block and the intra prediction block.
