Controlling a system comprising of a first and second refrigeration loads which each have a dead time in which they are not responsive, wherein the refrigeration loads are controlled in response to at least one local thermostat; information relating to the dead times of the refrigeration loads is stored in a server; and overlapping dead times are avoided, reduced or mitigated by the server intervening in the operation of the a responsive refrigeration load. The server may advance or delay the dead time of one of the refrigeration loads. The server may distribute the dead times such that there is at least one compressor that is responsive at all times. The dead times may be caused by a wake-up or shut down of the device. The control of the dead times of the refrigeration loads may be made based on the temperatures of the local thermostats, the temperature limits of the first and/or second refrigeration load and/or the refrigerator associated with the refrigeration loads. A second independent claim is included for a method of avoiding, reducing or mitigating an anticipated non responsive period if it falls within a specified time. |
