PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sponge metal catalyst which has a high specific surface area and high activity.SOLUTION: As an expansion method for eluting an aluminum from a metallic aluminum alloy formed of aluminum and a metal having catalytic activity such as nickel, cobalt, copper or iron, an alkali solution to which chelator is added is used. Thereby, an aluminum compound eluted in an expansion process is prevented from depositing on a catalyst surface, therefore the sponge metal catalyst which has a high specific surface area and high activity is produced. |
