Provided is a projection-type display device capable of displaying information according to the desire of a driver. To this end, a HUD is equipped with: light sources (41r, 41g, 41b); a light-modulating element 44 for spatially modulating light emitted from the light sources, on the basis of projection image data; a projection unit 50 for projecting the image light that was spatially modulated by the light-modulating element 44 onto a projection surface 2, which is a section of a windshield 1 installed in a vehicle; a designating information acquisition unit 63 for acquiring designating information that designates one or more elements from among the maximum units of content included in the projection image data, the content display size, and the content arrangement layout, on the basis of information inputted from an operation unit 70; and an image information generation unit 62 for generating projection image data on the basis of the designating information acquired by the designating information acquisition unit 63. |
