[Class 123 (ii)] In water-tube boilers having a number of banks of vertical or inclined tubes connected to upper and lower drums, those tubes of banks a, b which are subjected to most radiant heat are flared at their upper ends for reception of the coned lower ends 6a of extensions 6, which pass above the normal water level and are secured at the upper end by means facilitating individual removal. The upper portions of the extensions pass through apertures in a plate 7 supported by brackets 8 welded and bolted to the drum wall, each tube being anchored to the plate by means of split taper pegs 9 driven into adjacent holes. The extensions are bent to facilitate entry of a workman into the drum.</p> |
