-13 A mattress lifting device comprises a mounting member and a lifting member being pivotably connected to the mounting member. The mounting member is for attaching to a 5 mattress support. The lifting member comprises a lifting plate pivotally coupled to the mounting member for lifting a mattress. The lifting member also comprises actuating means for pivoting the lifting member and for causing the lifting plate to lift the mattress when actuated, such that the lifting plate provides a disbursed lifting force to the mattress.
