A tool 10 for stripping a surrounding layer 4, 5 (Figure 6) from an elongate electrical cable 2 comprises a tool body 11 having opposed jaws 12, 13; a cable-receiving channel 22 (Figure 4) defined by formations in each of the jaws, the channel accommodates a cable to be stripped with the formations fitting closely against the surrounding layer of the cable; and a cutting blade 28 (Figure 7) mounted in one of the jaws and having a cutting end 29 (Figure 7) positioned in the channel to penetrate the layer to a pre-set depth; the cutting end is disposed at an angle to the axis of the channel to sever a helical strip of the surrounding layer from the cable received in the channel on rotation of the tool; the jaws are resiliently separable and move away from each other from an initial position. In one embodiment the tool is formed in two parts. In one embodiment a second channel has a differently diameter to the first channel to receive a different sized cable. The tool may be a hand tool. |
