The invention relates to a portable communication device (1) for communicating with others by means of optical signals, comprising a housing; a holder (12) on the housing for the communication device (1) to be carried by a user, display means (2) on the housing for displaying optical signals; a microprocessor (5) for controlling the communication device (1); wherein the display means (2) are mechanically freely configurable by the user. The invention further relates to a method for communicating with others by means of such a communication device, comprising the following steps: mechanically configuring the display means (2) and programming the communication device (1) using parameters which are specific to the mechanical configuration. |
